LESZEK SKRLA BARITONE

Today, Leszek Skrla stands amongst the foremost Polish baritone singers. He graduated with distinction from the Vocal and Acting Department of the Music Academy in Gdańsk, where he trained under the guidance of Andrzej Kosecki and Piotr Kusiewicz.

In 1987, he was honored at the 22nd Antonín Dvořák International Vocal Competition in Karlovy Vary, and in 1988, at the Ada Sari Vocal Competition in Nowy Sącz. He made his debut on the stage of the Baltic Opera in Gdańsk in the role of Figaro in Gioachino Rossini's opera "The Barber of Seville". Since the 1988/1989 season, he has been a soloist at the Baltic Opera in Gdańsk. He also performs as a soloist in oratorio concerts both in Poland and abroad. He has participated in Music Festivals such as the Warsaw Autumn, Vratislavia Cantans, Musica Polonia Nova, Viva il Canto, and has made numerous appearances at the Bydgoszcz Opera Festival. In his artistic oeuvre, he boasts over 50 operatic roles, mainly leading ones.

Apart from his performing career, Leszek Skrla is also involved in vocal pedagogy. He is a professor of musical arts, training students in solo singing at the Vocal and Acting Department of the Stanisław Moniuszko Music Academy in Gdańsk. He is the recipient of the Pomeranian Artistic Award granted by the Marshal of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, the Artistic Award of the Mayor of Wejherowo, and the Remus Award.
