WOJCIECH RAJSKI

Conductor, founder, and artistic director of the Polish Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra Sopot. Born in Warsaw, he studied at the PWSM under Bogusław Madey. Thanks to a scholarship, he furthered his education at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne. He began his conducting career in 1971 at the Teatr Wielki – National Opera in Warsaw. Concurrently, from 1974 to 1978, he served as conductor and artistic director of the Teatr Wielki in Poznań. Between 1978–1980, he worked as the principal conductor for the Orchester der Beethovenhalle Bonn. In 1982, he founded the Polish Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra Sopot and continues to perform with them in major world and European concert halls. From 1993–2006, Wojciech Rajski served as the artistic director of the Polish Radio Orchestra.

In 1993, he began his teaching career at the Hochschule für Musik in Karlsruhe, where he earned the title of professor. From 1998–2014, he was a professor of conducting at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt, and between 2008–2020 at the Music Academy in Gdańsk. Apart from his consistent work with Polish orchestras, Rajski has guest-conducted several foreign ensembles, such as the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande (Geneva), NDR Radiophilharmonie (Hannover), and Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks (Munich). He has performed with many world-renowned soloists, including Mstislav Rostropovich, Henryk Szeryng, Sabine Meyer, Ivo Pogorelić, Aleksandra Kurzak, Roberto Alagna, Piotr Beczała, and Krystian Zimerman.

He has participated in international festivals, including Prague Spring, Flanders Festival, and Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival. He is the brainchild and artistic director of the Sopot Classic International Music Festival.

Wojciech Rajski has recorded over 80 albums. He records for radio and television both domestically and abroad. He has received numerous awards and honors, including the Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta (2002), the Silver Medal "Meritorious for Culture Gloria Artis" (2005), the Pomeranian Artistic Award (2008), and in 2022, the Gold Medal "Meritorious for Culture Gloria Artis".
