Szymon Morus, doctor of musical arts in conducting. Founder and artistic director of the Progress Chamber Orchestra, which has been successfully playing concerts in Poland and abroad since 2009. He became master of arts in the violin class of Dr. Andrzej Kacprzak and symphonic and opera conducting under Prof. Wojciech Rajski at Music Academy in Gdańsk.

He works with the Polish Radio Orchestra, Great Theatre in Łódź, Polish Royal Opera and the  Polish Sinfonia Juventus Orchestra. In the 2014/2015 season he was conductor in residence at the Polish Baltic Philharmonic. In March 2016 he became the musical director responsible for the premiere of Krzysztof Penderecki’s Black Mask, presenting the piece to the Tri-City public (at the Baltic Opera) with great success and made his debut at the National Opera’s Great Theatre in Warsaw. In the 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 seasons he conducted the Baltic Opera in Gdańsk, where in November 2017 he was musical director of the world premiere of the opera The Last Judgement by Krzysztof Knittel, and produced a premiere of Peter Tchaikovsky’s  ballet The Nutcracker that December. In November 2018, he performed at the National Philharmonic Hall in Warsaw during the Krzysztof Penderecki Festival held for the composer’s 85th birthday.

He has many albums to his name. He always promotes contemporary music by conducting many premieres of pieces by Polish composers. Winner of the 2016 Pomeranian Artistic Award. President of the Pomeranian Musica Giovane Society. From October 2013 a lecturer at his alma mater, where he runs courses at the Orchestral and Opera Department.
